Perkins&Will (Chicago) has named Jason F. McLennan as chief sustainability officer at the firm. Additionally, McLennan’s firm, McLennan Design (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), has merged with Perkins&Will.
McLennan is creator of the Living Building Challenge and co-author of the WELL building standard.
According to a release from Perkins&Will, McLennan Design will work with firm leadership and individual project teams over the next year on several initiatives, including:
creating new tools that facilitate regenerative design and planning across all Perkins&Will’s studios worldwide
expanding and advancing firmwide programs that enable significant decarbonization of buildings to help the industry meet its AIA 2030 targets early
leading new research into habitat impacts, biophilia, and nature-based architectural solutions
expanding consulting on net-zero operational carbon and lower embodied carbon buildings, as well as healthy materials
accelerating climate justice efforts by more closely aligning the firm’s approach to justice, equity, engagement, diversity, and inclusion with sustainability goals
