Highland Hospital Holds Ribbon-cutting For New Patient Tower In New York

Highland Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Southeast Tower, part of a $70 million modernization project.

The 80,000-square-foot tower adds four levels to a wing of the hospital and includes 58 private patient rooms, eight bariatric rooms, and physical therapy space.

Floors five, six, and seven will house general medicine, general and bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal, colorectal, orthopedic, neurosurgery, vascular, plastics and urology services. An additional mechanical floor and a floor for clinical programs are also included.

The tower was designed with sustainable features including high-efficiency mechanical systems throughout that will result in 14 percent less energy consumption than the average hospital, as well as high-efficiency windows that will allow the hospital to use and maintain less heating and cooling.

The project team comprises HOLT Architects, P.C. (architect; Ithaca, N.Y.) and LeChase Construction LLC (construction; Buffalo, N.Y.).
