Maria Shriver Explains How Her Diet Has Changed As She Ages: « I Eat for the Long-Term »

Maria Shriver‘s diet and eating habits have changed from when she was in her 20s and 30s to now. Talking to her daughter, Christina Schwarzenegger, the author and MOSH bar founder said she is more mindful of what she’s eating today — much more so than when she was her daughter’s age. “I didn’t grow up with that message of eating for my mental health at all,” said Shriver. “It was always like ‘eat to be thin,’ but now I eat to be able to be clear thinking and I try to eat for the long-term. That’s something I wish I had done much better when I was younger, but that message wasn’t out in the zeitgeist at all.”

She adds that her daughter has been one of the people to teach her about mental health, something that she is grateful for. “I didn’t grow up with messages about mental health. I didn’t grow up talking about mental health. I didn’t grow up feeling it was okay to go to therapy, so you’ve [Christina] opened my heart and my mind to all of that.”
