How to Cope When Life Feels Meaningless?

Do you think you are the only one to whom life feels meaningless? If so, you are not alone. Most people feel this way. It can be because something isn’t happening right in their lives, things are not working out the way planned, issues in relationships, or other reasons.

However, here are some tips if you are looking for ways to cope with this feeling, foster healthy relationships, and feel joy, happiness, and fulfillment. These will help you overcome the feeling of meaninglessness.

Life is a beautiful gift, but still, because of the problems and challenges it brings, the monotonous cycle, finding no purpose in life, or going through relationship issues, feelings like life is meaningless are obvious. In some cases, some mental health conditions also make a person feel this way. Whatever the reason, there are ways to find fulfillment in life, work, home, and society.

Ways to Cope With the Feeling of Meaninglessness

1. Live with intention

When expectations or intentions to live are set, you recognize what you want to do and start meaningfully considering every aspect of life. Also, you see it as something that aligns or doesn’t align with your vision. When you live with intention, you start to practice living in a planned way, challenge things, and define your values and beliefs.

This helps with positive talk, disconnecting you from distractions and connecting with people who support you. To get started with intention setting, you can ask questions like

What brings me joy?
What are my passions and interests?
What drives me to be successful?
What does success mean to me?
What does success mean to me?

2. Practice gratitude.

When you feel low and everything seems dark and gloomy, gratitude can help you overcome this feeling. When you start to show gratitude towards what you have in life, you start to embrace the goodness of the things you have in life. Also, you start to feel good about yourself and get a purpose in life.

You are everything in a bright light; everything gives you a purpose, and you can positively do things. Additionally, this decreases tension, depression, and anxiety that you feel because nothing is going your way. To practice gratitude, you can do the following things:

Write a letter to someone who positively impacts you.
Be grateful for what you have in life. It can be your eyes, your legs, or your job.
Take some time out, be in the present, and be thankful for everything you have.
Express gratitude towards people who help you.

3. For things that give meaning to your life

As you start paying attention to the things you are surrounded with, you will see positive changes in your life. Sometimes, the mundane tasks you do feel like something new, but when you attend to them, you will find that not everybody can do them; you can do them. This will make you feel good about yourself.

To feel good, try getting up early. This will give you enough time to get ready, kiss and hug your loved ones, express gratitude to them, exercise, be mindful, and sip coffee in peace. Also, you can engage all five senses while doing an activity. This will make you feel alive and find a purpose.

4. Focus on positive connections.

The circle of five impacts a person’s life the most. Look at the people you interact with most of the time. Change your circle if the people you interact with make you feel sad, low on self-confidence, and unsupportive of you. Replace negative people with positive ones, and look for people who can help you grow and learn. You should have supportive people in your circle. Be in the company of supportive and positive people who can encourage you and see positivity and brightness in all your actions.

Listen to music that reminds you of joyful times, and spend time with people who make you happy. You can even spend some time feeling nostalgic, remembering the moments that make you happy. This will help you build positive connections with yourself and with others. If you do not have any positive memories, you can identify people with whom you have enjoyed some memories or made some good memories. Relive those moments and stay happy.

5. Know yourself better.

As individuals grow, they change over time. This is why only a handful of us know ourselves. When you start spending time with yourself, you will be surprised that you don’t know who you are. From time to time, do introspection.

This will help you connect with yourself and get comfortable in your skin, making you confident in who you are. This knowledge and awareness of who you are will make you feel more confident and compassionate towards yourself. Try writing in a journal, practice mindfulness, and connect with others.

6. Determine your values.

Another way to find a meaning is to determine your values. When you know what is important to you, decision-making gets easier, and you can answer questions about life. For example, if community service holds value for you, you can take small steps to help others. But before that, be nice to yourself. With a negative attitude, you will not be alone in life. Whenever you’re going through something hard, be as nice to yourself as possible.

7. Connect with something bigger than yourself.

Human beings can connect with others and something bigger than ourselves. This is the beauty, but it can only be experienced when you start to pay attention to others and the things that bring joy.

Rediscover meaning when life feels meaningless. Try to find things that you can connect with. It can be nature, religion, art, music, or anything else. Think of things that have inspired you and try to replicate those experiences.

8. Seek professional help.

Sometimes, finding meaning in life by doing things alone can be difficult. In such cases, you can take the help of a therapist or psychologist who can help you cope with this feeling. They can help you find meaning in life and manage the symptoms. Also, if you struggle with any mental health condition, they will help you understand the reason and support you.

Connect with yourself and give your life meaning.

There might be different reasons people feel life is meaningless. The ways may vary, but that doesn’t mean that feeling this way is wrong; anyone can feel this way at any time. What you need to do is pay attention to yourself.

You must have some goals, try self-help tips, and practice. Gratitude will hold the relationship with yourself and with others and add value to the mundane in moments. See what makes you happy and live your life. You will find that this feeling paves the way in no time.
