Right before Emma Lovewell reached out to Peloton for a job, the wellness expert and author was feeling really lost in her career. “I was a fitness instructor but had taken a side step and was a little bit lost and not sure what I was doing,” recalls Lovewell. “I was commuting an hour and a half each way to get to this other tech company to teach fitness there where I was not making great money and feeling super lost.”
Lovewell adds that at the time, she questioned what her purpose was. And even though she faced low points, she says that moments like that are necessary to help guide us in the next direction. “It was right before Peloton where I was probably at my lowest,” she says. But instead of dwelling on where she was at, she decided to take action in her life.
“It takes feeling the feelings, not just sitting there and staying there, but actually going and making a difference. Because what’s going to happen if I just sit back and feel bad for myself?” She adds, “You need to brainstorm and talk and connect with people, get inspired, and get new ideas…and now I’m here.”
Her advice for people in a similar situation? Lovewell is a big proponent of not sweeping things under the rug. “Feel the things, but then you have to take action after that,” she says. “It’s not enough to just acknowledge the feeling. [Ask yourself], ‘What’s the next step?’”
