Emotional Stress

The psychological pressure and restlessness leading to various factors such as Distress, Threat, and Loss of Personal Safety or Internal Dispute, Frustration, Low Self-esteem, and Sorrow, are considered to be a part of emotional stress or emotional anxiety.

What is Emotional Stress?

Emotional stress is a very relatable response to routine life. Aggression, sadness, worry, phobias, fear, and many other emotional stressors are all-natural reactions, they all are a part of our routine life. All these emotional stressors become unhealthy when it starts interfering with the ability to perform your daily tasks.

Warning Signs and Symptoms of Emotional Stress 

The symptoms of emotional stress can be seen mentally, emotionally as well as behaviorally.

Physical Symptoms are:

Grinding teeth or clenching the jaw

Migraine

Breathlessness

Insomnia or Hypersomnia

Disturbances in appetite 

Increase in heart rate

Mental or Behavioral Symptoms are:

Feeling more emotional

Feeling devastated 

Forgetting things often 

Procrastinating 

Difficulty with focusing on things, managing things, in doing daily tasks

Consumption of alcohol or drugs

How to Cope well with Emotional Stress?

There are many ways to cope well with emotional stress, such as, listening to music, going on a walk, dancing, practising yoga, relaxing/calming yourself using various apps on your phone or laptop. Few other techniques to cope with emotional stress are as follows:

Practising Mindfulness: Mindfulness helps to calm your mind and helps to focus your attention and become aware of it. Practising mindfulness also helps to observe the physical changes. This mind-body connection helps to cope well with stress. Hence, practising mindfulness helps to calm down and also to cope with emotional stress.

Distraction your mind: Try to divert your mind from the emotion which is causing you stress. Follow your hobbies like dancing, singing, painting. Be in contact with your friends or go out with them. Do socialize. Do things that keep yourself busy.

Do journaling: Journaling is the best way to write down your thoughts and emotions, with this it gets easy to get more clarity with your thoughts and emotions. Hence, as a result, it gets easy to think about the possible solutions to overcome emotional stress.

To practice Meditation: Practicing meditation is another way to reduce your stress, as you can redirect your thoughts in a positive and comforting direction, and as a result, you can relax your mind and body.
