Exam Anxiety

Exam anxiety is a common occurrence among all age groups. It is a form of performance anxiety. It is a condition of extreme stress and fear prior to exams, which may affect the overall performance of the examinees. It can be a serious condition that results in headaches, heart palpitations, sudden bursts of anger, and fainting. The feeling often arises due to lack of preparation, lack of confidence, or any immediate incident that makes the person nervous.

To overcome exam anxiety:

It is vital to confront the matter with a relaxed attitude. The person needs to calm themselves with positive thoughts and self-motivation.

Relaxation techniques such as maintaining a positive affirmations journal would greatly help in reducing anxiety and increasing self-esteem.

They need to take slow, deep breaths which often give a quick boost to their confidence.

This kind of anxiety can be prevented to some extent by getting a good night’s sleep

Start the exam with a clear mind.

As with many anxiety issues, exam anxiety is a sudden state of anxiety and can be prevailed over with the right mindset. A person who is about to write their exams needs to go through a thorough preparation to get into the right psyche. Getting a good amount of sleep at night naturally freshens the mind and prepares it for the day ahead. Aerobic exercising in the morning can uplift this fresh attitude. Proper revision of topics studied before can give you the self-confidence to write at your best. Proper intake of food and reaching the exam hall early allows a person to relax themselves while familiarizing with the general atmosphere.

Along with self-care, consulting a professional psychologist would help one understand and deal with the emotions, beliefs, and behaviors while also allowing them to work with their full potential. All of this together will result in preparing a perfect mindset for the exam.
