Prime Day is one of the best times of the year to splurge on tech — and lucky for us, Prime Day is back again today and tomorrow (Oct 10-11) with seemingly infinite pages of tech deals, including earbuds and headphones (you know, the things we seem to constantly lose or wreck even though we don’t have the kind of money to be losing or wrecking them). If you’re in the market for an elite pair of earbuds, listen up: the Sony WF-1000XM5 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Canceling Earbuds are $22 off, and they are worth every penny.

Story time! I recently destroyed my third pair of earbuds in one year at the gym, thanks to…my sweat, I guess? TMI, I sweat a LOT when I work out. However, I absolutely must be listening to my gym playlist at full volume whether I’m on the treadmill, rower, or lifting, and apparently the moisture can seep into the hardware and render it useless. So when I was sent the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds to test, I was cautiously optimistic. I put them through the ringer for weeks—and even took them out for a drizzly walk with my dogs to see if bad weather could take them out. Tldr; It did not.

What makes the Sony WF-1000XM5 Earbuds so good

These earbuds delivered crisp sound, complete noise-cancelation (this is important, since half the treadmills at my 24-Hour Fitness are broken and screech, drowning out my tunes), ambient noise when I want it (good for dog walks so I can hear cars coming), and a comfortable fit (thanks to the three sizes of buds you get to pick from). They’re also water-resistant, seamlessly connect with tech (Apple and Android), and offer a battery life up to eight hours (plus quick charging).

As a shopping editor, I’ve tested at least a dozen different types of earbuds and headphones. While I prefer headphones, earbuds are the most practical to use for exercising. But the problem with so many earbuds is that they fall out easily (it can’t just be my ears, right?). Not the Sony WF-1000XM5s. I’ve been able to sprint, squat, lunge, and do jumping jacks without having to adjust my earbuds every 10 seconds.

If you’re looking for a pair of earbuds you can also use for work, I can confirm these offer amazing sound quality. They drown out the dog barks in the background while I chat with colleagues over Zoom, yet I’m still able to hear my husband letting me know it’s time for dinner (bless him). Since the battery life is supreme, I don’t have to re-charge them for several days on end.

You don’t have to just take my word for it. One shopper who left a detailed review titled “Damn near perfection,” writes, “To me, these might be the best all around buds I have ever tried. From sound to calls to comfort, Sony has just nailed all of it. There are companies that offer buds that do one thing better perhaps, but none are as complete as these in my opinion.” Another says, “I can wear those for hours without noticing that I have something in my ear. It creates a good air tight seal, ANC is amazing, sound quality is great.”
