Jack and Cheryl Morris Cancer Center Reaches Project Milestone

RWJBarnabas Health (West Orange, N.J.) and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (New Brunswick, N.J.) have topped out the $750 million Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in New Brunswick.

The 520,000-square-foot freestanding cancer hospital will include outpatient and inpatient services, research laboratories, retail space, and ancillary services.

The 12-story cancer center, which will be connected to original Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey  via a pedestrian bridge, will house 96 inpatient beds spread over three floors, as well as a floor for surgery and procedures. The outpatient area will feature 84 infusion bays, 74 exam rooms, advanced radiology, diagnostic equipment, a pharmacy, and urgent care.

Research areas will be located on multiple floors, including stem cell and molecular biology, to accelerate the delivery of leading cancer therapies and treatments.

The project team includes HOK (architect and designer; St. Louis, Mo.), O’Donnell & Naccarato (structural engineer; New Brunswick), and New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) (developer; New Brunswick).

The cancer center is scheduled to open in 2024.
