Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Ore., has opened a 48-bed emergency health center for low-acuity COVID-19 patients on the unfinished ninth floor of its cancer center tower, to help with a recent patient surge, according to an article in khou.com.
The 48-bed unit is designed with temporary walls, an open ceiling, and cement floor. The medical center plans to start with treating about eight patients on the floor and increase capacity as needed.
No specific timeline has been determined for how long the unit will remain operational.
