A new, five-story patient tower addition has topped out at South Texas Health System Edinburg in Edinburg, Texas.
The 150,000-square-foot tower will include an emergency department (ED), dedicated pediatric ED, imaging, cardiac lab, clinical lab, intensive care unit (ICU), 28 inpatient rehabilitation suites, a 15-suite medical/surgical unit, and shell space for future expansion.
The updated ED is expected to be completed in mid-2022 and will contain 15 exam rooms, two trauma rooms, and four triage rooms. The remainder of the patient tower addition is scheduled for completion in fall 2022. The project also includes a 20,000-square-foot renovation to the South Texas Health System Edinburg, including updating the catheterization lab, pharmacy, and other laboratory spaces. The renovation portion of work is scheduled to be completed in early 2023.
The project team includes Gresham Smith (architect; Dallas) and Robins & Morton (general contractor; Birmingham, Ala.).
