The University Of Chicago Medicine Plans $815M Cancer Care And Research Pavilion

The University of Chicago Medicine (UChicago Medicine) broke ground on a $815 million standalone pavilion for cancer care and research on its Chicago campus.

The 575,000-square-foot, seven-story project will include cancer research, new therapy developments, and clinical advancements.

It will house 80 inpatient beds (64 medical-surgical and 16 intensive care unit), with family space to accommodate overnight stays; 90 outpatient exam rooms; a breast center; and dedicated imaging, infusion, and clinical trial spaces.

The project will also include showers and on-site laundry facilities, inpatient family dining areas, and larger consultation rooms for patients who attend appointments with loved ones.

A center for complementary therapies, stress reduction, community education and well-being support is also planned as well shell space for future growth.

The project team comprises architect CannonDesign (Chicago) and general contractor Turner Construction (Chicago).

The pavilion is slated to open in spring 2027.
